IoT Trends 2018

IoT Internet of Things Technology Trends
The Internet of Things is the capability to connect to every-day devices

Artificial Intelligence

"the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages"

Edge Computing

a way to streamline the flow of traffic from IoT devices and provide real-time local data analysis

[can improve poor connectivity amongst IoT devices, latency-sensitive processing of information - edge computing reduces latency because data does not have to traverse over a network to a data center or cloud for processing

Fog Computing - refers to the network connections between edge devices and the cloud

Edge Computing's potential to replace the Cloud

Edge Devices: can be any device that produces data : sensors, industrial machines or other devices that produce or collect data.

Edge: depends on use case/ industry specific use

Edge Gateway: the bugger between where edge computing processing is done and the broader fog network. the gateway is the window into the larger environment beyond the edge of the network.

Fat Client: software that can do some data processing in edge devices; this is opposed to a thin client, which would merely transfer data

Edge Computing Equipment: many devices, sensors and machines can be outfitted to work in an edge computing environment by simply making them Internet accessible

Mobile Edge Computing - refers to the buildout of edge computing systems in telecommunications systems, particularly 5G scenarios.

The Blockchain

Digital Transformation

the change associated with the application of digital technology in all aspects of human society. the transformation stage means that digital usages inherently enable new types of innovation and creativity in a particular domain, rather than simply enhance and support traditional methods.
